Support Worker / Companionship

Community Companion – Flexible Varied Role – No Personal Care

£13.00 per hour | Flexible hours | Self-employed | Driving required

Friendly Faces Berkshire is a small local company that has been supporting people in the community for over 10 years.

We’re looking for warm, reliable people to work with us.

This is not a traditional care role and there is no personal care.

The easiest way to describe the job is that you’re there to make someone’s day a little easier.

That might mean going out for a coffee , doing a bit of shopping, helping with paperwork, going along to an appointment, having a chat, helping someone get out of the house, or simply giving them a hand with something they’re finding difficult.

The role is really varied because every person we support is different.

One day you might be out and about with someone, another day you might be helping them organise things at home, run a few errands or just spend some time together.

It’s not about rushing in and out or following the same routine every day.

It’s about getting to know people, being dependable and helping with the little things that can make a big difference.

You might help with:

  • Shopping and errands
  • Going out for coffee, lunch or a walk
  • Appointments and local outings
  • Paperwork and general organisation
  • Light household tasks
  • Hobbies and activities
  • Building confidence getting out and about
  • Companionship and conversation
  • College and work shadow support
  • General everyday practical help

For us, the most important things are that you are kind, reliable, easy to talk to and happy to help.

Some support workers work just a few hours a week and others who work more regularly, so the role can fit around other work, family life or retirement.

We do try to keep people with the same regular clients where possible, because we think the relationship and trust you build is one of the nicest parts of the job.

Many support workers have been with us for years, and some have been with Friendly Faces since the very beginning.

A few important bits:

  • No personal care
  • Pay from £13.00 per hour
  • Self-employed position
  • Driving licence and access to a car required
  • DBS check required, which we can arrange
  • We can help you get set up as self-employed if it’s new to you

If you’re someone who enjoys helping people, likes variety and wants regular flexible work that actually feels worthwhile, we’d love to hear from you.
