Part Time UK Bookkeeper and Financial Admin Assistant, Remote

We are looking for an experienced UK-based bookkeeper or financial administrator to provide ongoing support to a UK limited company director.

This is NOT a Finance Director or CFO position.

We are looking for someone practical, experienced, organised, and hands-on.

The role involves taking ownership of the financial administration surrounding both a UK limited company and its director.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring Companies House deadlines and requirements
  • Monitoring HMRC deadlines and correspondence
  • Liaising with our accountant
  • Coordinating company accounts and tax administration
  • Coordinating personal Self Assessment administration
  • Investigating penalties, late charges, and outstanding matters
  • Making telephone calls and chasing relevant organisations where authorised
  • Organising tax and financial records
  • Maintaining a complete schedule of upcoming deadlines and payments
  • Following up until outstanding matters are resolved
  • Helping organise financial documentation for a future mortgage application
  • Escalating matters to the director only when his decision, signature, information, or payment is genuinely required

We are specifically looking for someone who takes ownership rather than simply creating work for the director.

If an HMRC letter arrives, we want someone who will investigate what happened, check the available records, speak to the accountant, contact HMRC where authorised, establish what needs to happen next, and drive the matter towards resolution.

Ideal candidates may have previously worked as a bookkeeper, accounts administrator, accounts assistant, practice administrator, or within a small UK accountancy practice.

We would also welcome applications from experienced semi retired professionals looking for a small amount of regular ongoing work.

Requirements:

  • UK-based
  • Strong UK bookkeeping or accounts administration experience
  • Experience dealing with HMRC
  • Familiarity with Companies House
  • Experience with UK limited companies
  • Self Assessment experience preferred
  • Comfortable making telephone calls
  • Highly organised
  • Able to work independently
  • Strong follow through

There may be additional hours during the initial clean up period. After this, we expect approximately 15-20 hours per month.

This is intended to become a long term position.

Pay: £20.00-£30.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 5.0 per week

Application question(s):

  • How many years of UK bookkeeping or tax administration experience do you have?
  • If the director forwarded you three HMRC penalty letters and said "I don't know what happened. Please sort this out," what would you actually do?
  • What is your hourly rate?
  • This role requires you to find information yourself wherever reasonably possible rather than repeatedly asking me to locate documents. Are you comfortable working this way?
