Croydon FC - Tea Bar Coordinator

Can you help people with learning disabilities to run the Tea Bar at Croydon’s community football club in South Norwood? Help people build their confidence, gain work skills and raise money for the charity.

Working pattern: Saturday day time fixtures, with the occasional midweek evening fixture - approx 3.5 hours per match

Croydon Mencap is looking for a friendly, organised and outgoing Tea Bar Coordinator to lead our tea bar at Croydon Football Club. This is much more than a customer service role: you will create welcoming volunteering opportunities for people with learning disabilities and show what people can achieve when they are given the right support and opportunity.

You will oversee the tea bar on agreed Croydon Football Club home fixture dates, serving tea, coffee, cakes, toasties, snacks and cold drinks to supporters and visitors. Alongside running an efficient and welcoming service, you will support people with learning disabilities to volunteer, gain practical experience, develop customer service skills and build their confidence.

A small team of experienced volunteers is happy and willing to support you and, where possible, provide cover when you need it. But you must be happy to manage this on your own when they are not free .Liaise with the key contact(s) at Croydon Football Club and confirm the dates and requirements for upcoming fixtures.

Job description

  • Set up, run and close down the tea bar safely and efficiently.
  • Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks, cakes, toasties and other refreshments.
  • Welcome customers, take orders and handle card payments using a SumUp card machine.
  • Handle a small amount of cash, keep it secure and follow Croydon Mencap’s cash-handling procedures.
  • Complete a short Microsoft Form after each match to confirm the total income received through card sales and cash and report any differences or issues.
  • Recruit and support volunteers with learning disabilities to take part in meaningful tasks at a pace that works for them.
  • Explain tasks clearly, demonstrate good customer service and offer encouragement and constructive support.
  • Motivate volunteers, recognise their progress and help them develop confidence and transferable work skills.
  • Promote the Tea Bar offer at, and beyond, the football club
  • Promote Croydon Mencap positively and help raise awareness of the charity’s work.
