The Accounting AI Training SME Role

OpenTrain AI is hiring an Accounting AI Training Subject Matter Expert to review AI-generated accounting and finance responses, create expert accounting content, and assess the quality of model reasoning.

The work covers journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, financial statement presentation, internal control analysis, and related business scenarios. You will evaluate outputs against GAAP or IFRS and judge their correctness, clarity, completeness, and adherence to best practices.

What You'll Do

You will combine technical accounting knowledge with careful written analysis. Your feedback and reference content will help identify weak reasoning and improve the reliability of AI-generated guidance.

  • Review AI-generated accounting answers and provide precise written feedback on errors, assumptions, and reasoning quality.
  • Create expert content such as journal entries, explanations, close checklists, reconciliation logic, and scenario analyses.
  • Evaluate bookkeeping logic, accruals, reconciliations, presentation issues, and control weaknesses.
  • Compare multiple responses and rate them for correctness, clarity, completeness, and appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Identify misleading guidance, unsafe assumptions, and weak explanations across business scenarios.
  • Write detailed prompts and gold-standard accounting outputs for model training and evaluation.

Required Qualifications

You should be able to make careful accounting judgments, explain corrections clearly, and produce structured reference answers. The role requires professional experience rather than general interest in accounting.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional accounting experience in public accounting, industry, shared services, or advisory.
  • Strong command of revenue and expense recognition, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, inventory basics, payroll basics, and tax awareness.
  • Ability to prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close deliverables with auditability in mind.
  • Solid understanding of financial statements and common classification or presentation issues.
  • Familiarity with internal controls, documentation standards, and audit readiness.
  • Minimum C1 English proficiency and clear, structured professional writing.
  • Strong accounting judgment across journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end close.

Preferred Background

Experience applying accounting expertise to quality assurance, technical writing, or AI evaluation is especially useful. Professionals should be comfortable working independently in an hourly remote contractor workflow across time zones.

  • Prior experience with AI data training, accounting quality assurance, audit review, or technical accounting writing.
  • CPA, ACCA, CMA, or a local equivalent.
  • Experience evaluating AI-generated content or technical accounting explanations.
  • Understanding of GAAP or IFRS presentation, internal controls, and documentation standards.
  • Ability to write precise explanations or model solutions for technical accounting work.

Compensation and Schedule

This is a part-time contractor role with a time requirement of 20+ hours per week. Country-based hourly variants are advertised at rates up to $65, $50, or $35 per hour depending on location.
